Who is the Trademark Compliance Office? Have you received a letter?
It has come to our attention that many of our clients after filing a trademark have received a very official looking letter from the Trademark Compliance Office. This office, based in Virginia, could easily throw people off claiming that they need to file this document and pay a fee to protect your trademarks.
According to the USPTO, there are numerous solicitations out there, including offers 1) for legal services, 2) for trademark monitoring services, 3) to record your trademark with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection or 4) to register trademarks in the company’s own private registration. All official correspondence will be from the “United States Patent and Trademark Office” in Alexandria, VA, and if by e-mail, specifically from the domain “@uspto.gov.”
If you ever receive a letter from any organization of which you are suspicious or about which you have a question, feel free to contact your legal representative prior to any further actions being taken.
